Dratini
Stats:
HP: 41
Atk: 64
Def: 45
Sp: 50
Spe: 50
Total: 250
Placed Tier: RBY LC
Type: Dragon
Description: Dratini, it can serve two purposes. A decently powerful mono attacker, or an abuser of one of RBY's most evil strategies. Agilwrap. Dratini always had a cool factor to it, made even better by his fantastic movepool and decent defensive stats and typing. Unfortunately he can't do much to Gastly who for the most part walls his attacks.
Set #1: Agilwrap
- Agility
- Wrap
- Thunderbolt / Surf
- Ice Beam / Surf
Set Explanation: Simple, use Agility, then Wrap. Wrap doesn't allow your opponent to attack and since Agility boosts your speed to ridiculous levels, as long as Wrap doesn't miss you should be fine. Thunderbolt and Ice Beam form the famous Boltbeam combination and are there merely to have a chance against anything that Wrap can't hit, namely Gastly. Although unfortunately it won't do much against it. Instead of Ice Beam or Thunderbolt you could run Surf as a better way to deal with Rock / Ground types, as Wrap is able to take care of most of the things that Thunderbolt or Ice Beam would hit anyways, although the Boltbeam combo always does wonders on its own.
Set #2: Mixed Attacker
- Body Slam / Hyper Beam
- Fire Blast / Surf / Hyper Beam / Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
Set Explanation: Body Slam is going to hit a lot of things hard, Fire Blast / Surf are there depending on what you need coverage from. Thunderbolt and Ice Beam are on this set as the potent Boltbeam combination. You could also opt to have Hyper Beam to have a hard hitting physical attack coming from Dratini's slightly higher attack stat. You could even run Thunder Wave for a chance at crippling Gastly, but if you run Thunder Wave you might as well run Hyper Beam on the first slot instead of Body Slam.
Counters: Gastly can come in and tank whatever Dratini throws at it but must be wary of the occasional Thunder Wave. It's the only thing that is a surefire counter to Dratini. If you don't have a Gastly on your team, hope that Wrap misses (it has shaky accuracy) and aim to paralyze Dratini. A paralyzed Dratini is a dead Dratini. As for the non-wrap set, Dratini can be taken down relatively easily with any Pokemon running Ice Beam / Blizzard.
