Description: Koffing is perhaps one of the most fun Pokemon in RBY LC. While its prowess is limited due to the abundance of Psychic wielding Gastly and Abras running around the tier, it has a unique niche that is quite hard to ignore. Koffing is one of the best mixed attackers in RBY LC, thanks to its great mixed stats and access to Fire Blast. If you play Koffing to its strengths, it won't let you down.
Set #1: Mixed Attacker

- Explosion
Set Explanation: Thunderbolt and Fire Blast give Koffing fantastic coverage, allowing it to hit multiple Pokemon in the tier super effectively, along with this, it has the defense to be able to take some solid hits. Sludge is a mediocre move that is only viable because it's STAB and gives a chance to Poison, along with this it gives Koffing the option of hitting special focused Pokemon who will attempt to switch in, thinking they can rain on Koffing's parade. Explosion is the icing on the cake, nailing anything when it's too low on HP to do anything else.
Counters: Gastly is Koffing's worst nightmare, being able to come in on any of its attacks without any damage, along with being immune to Explosion and KO Koffing with Psychic. Abra can do the same, although it must be wary of both Sludge and Explosion. Geodude can also come in on any of Koffing's attacks and proceed to KO with Earthquake.
