Rhyhorn
Stats:
HP: 80
Atk: 85
Def: 95
Sp: 30
Spe: 25
Total: 315
Placed Tier: RBY LC
Type: Ground / Rock
Description: Rhyhorn functions in exactly the same way that Rhydon functions in RBY OU. It has amazingly powerful physical stats but it's lacking on the special side. Usually this doesn't matter though, as half the time Rhyhorn's Earthquake or Rock Slide is more than enough to finish off a pesky opponent. Rhyhorn has an extremely limited movepool so it can only pull off its one good set. Play Rhyhorn to its strengths, and more often than not you will plow your way through the opponent's team.
Set #1: Physical Attacker
- Body Slam
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Substitute
Set Explanation: It's pretty simple. Attack with Earthquake on anything you can hit super effectively, same with Rock Slide. Those two attacks will do the most damage. Body Slam is useful for when you predict a switch in (namely Staryu, Poliwag and Abra) and paralyze them. Paralyzing your opponents is key, as Rhyhorn is incredibly slow and will be out-sped otherwise. The reason substitute is there is so if you feel like taking a risk, when a Pokemon is paralyze you can sub, hope for a full paralysis then attack. Then you've got free reign to either paralyze or take out another Pokemon.
Counters: Staryu and Poliwag can't take a hit from Rhyhorn, but they are faster and can OHKO it with their powerful water STAB attacks. Any grass types can OHKO Rhyhorn for the most part as well. Even though Gastly is OHKO'd easily by Earthquake, its Mega Drain can be a pain. Zubat's Confuse Ray + Mega Drain combo can be annoying as well.
