Ditto

Ditto [NU] Spr_5b_132

Abilities:
Limber
Imposter

Stats:

HP: 48
Atk: 48
Def: 48
SpA: 48
SpD: 48
Spe: 48

Total:
288

Placed Tier:
NU

Type:
Normal

Description:
Ditto has had a rough history, for four generations he had to wait a turn to transform. Unfortunately for poor Ditto, this left him almost completely unused except on gimmick teams. However now Ditto has received possibly one of the best abilities in the game. Imposter, which basically acts as an instant transform. Ditto can succeed in every tier in the game. However you must keep into account that even though Ditto's ability is spectacular, it can work against it. Defensive Pokemon are extremely hard to copy. Ditto's new ability though allows it to run multiple sets, which basically means multiple items. Each item Ditto would hold gives it a specific niche, although for a lot of the items, paralysis support is greatly appreciated. Keep in mind that Ditto cannot copy opponents that are behind substitutes.

Set #1: Faster than the speed of li-Mach Punch (Scarf)

Item: Choice Scarf
Ability: Imposter
EVs: 248 HP, 252 Def, 8 SpD
Nature: Relaxed

- Transform

Set Explanation:
This set is the best standard non-niche Ditto set. The idea is to come in on a weakened Pokemon or a Pokemon with stat boosts, and then use Choice Scarf's speed boost tacked onto the boosts to wreck the enemy Pokemon, and then proceed once again to possibly do a sweep.

Set #2: Do you even lift? (Band)

Item: Choice Band
Ability: Imposter
EVs: 248 HP, 252 Def, 8 SpD
Nature: Relaxed

- Transform

Set Explanation:
This is one of Ditto's niche sets. It's very risky since Ditto has to rely on winning a speed tie, but if you do win the tie, it sets you up for launching powerful physical attacks. The idea is to come in on a powerful weakened physical Pokemon such as Terrakion, Scizor or something similar. Kill it off, then wreck with their already high attack stat that's boosted even further by your own Choice Band. Having boosts just makes it even better. The other risk to this set is that if the opponent doesn't have any physically oriented Pokemon, you're in for a bit of trouble.

Set #3: I need my glasses! (Specs)

Item: Choice Specs
Ability: Imposter
EVs: 248 HP, 252 Def, 8 SpD
Nature: Relaxed

- Transform

Set Explanation:
This set works basically the same as the Band set, except on the special side, same risks, same concept. Although for the most part the risk is slightly less since there tends to be more special oriented Pokemon on a team these days due to the prevalence of weather.

Set #4: Pokebender (Life Orb)

Item: Life Orb
Ability: Imposter
EVs: 248 HP, 252 Def, 8 SpD
Nature: Relaxed

- Transform

Set Explanation:
This set is for those who want power, but don't want to be locked into a move. It is by far the riskiest of all of Ditto's sets. It works the same as the choice sets, but on top of that requires that you beat the opponent with less immediate power. However, the reward is far greater, as you will be able to use all four moves of the copied Pokemon. Resulting in much greater coverage.

Notes: There are multiple other items you can attach to Ditto, such as Leftovers, Black Sludge, Eviolite, you name it. However most of those have too small of a niche to properly function and will result in more losses than wins.

Counters:
Ditto in itself is unpredictable as you will have no clue what Pokemon of yours it will copy. However once Ditto copies a Pokemon, you can take it down just by knowing the weaknesses of your own Pokemon. Most of the time Ditto will be locked into one move bar the Life Orb set. So you can predict accordingly and send in a Pokemon that can sponge Ditto's attacks. Priority is also usually a bane for a transformed Ditto.
