Infernape

Infernape [OU] 392

Abilities:
Blaze
Iron Fist (D/W)

Stats:
HP: 76
Atk: 104
Def: 71
Spa: 104
Spd: 71
Spe: 108

Placed Teir: OU

Typing: Fire/ Fighting

Mixed 'Nape

Infernape @ Life Orb
Trait: Blaze
EV: 4 HP/ 128 Atk/ 128 Spa/ 252 Spe
Nature: Naive/ Rash

-Mach Punch/ Stone Edge
-Close Combat
-Fire Blast
-Grass Knot

This set is good because a lot of Infernapes in the metagame are either physical or special. Many people don't expect the Mixed 'Nape. Mach Punch is on this set to give priority whereas stone edge can bring down opponents such as Dragonite and Salamence who aren't hit hard by the other three moves.

Counter: The best counter I can think of is a skilled player who can predict well because life orb could be its undoing. The set that runs Mach Punch over can be countered by Dragon/ Flying pokemon such as Dragonite and/ or Salamence. The Stone Edge set is a bit harder to counter as the only thing that really counters it is a pokemon that's faster than it and priority moves. Pretty much, you have to be able to know exactly what set is being run, otherwise, get ready to be KO'd by this blazing ape.

(Credit to Sexy Gardevoir for the following sets)

A stealth rock lead set is very viable in the tier, potentially grabbing a free kill.
Infernape (F) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Endeavor
- Vacuum Wave
- Fire Blast

This set aims to set up Stealth Rock on the first turn, as the opponent knocks infernape off to 1hp. From then one, Infernape should use endeavor to bring the opponent to 1hp as well, and should it kill infernape on the same turn, anything with priority can nab a free kill, as Stealth Rock essentially traps it and prevents it from switching out, as if it switches back in, it will die due to Stealth Rock. Should the opponent not kill you straight away after you have used endeavor, you can safely go for vacuum wave and nail your opponent with the priority move. From then on, it is just rinse and repeat with endeavor+vacuum wave. Fire Blast is used as an attacking option should it not have been knocked down to 1hp, as it is still immensely powerful due to its high special attack. The EV spread that is given is so that Infernape does not need to split its EVs into both spectrums, maximising both special attack and speed will give infernape the best firepower it can dish out.

Infernape (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast/Close Combat
- Grass Knot/Vacuum Wave/Hidden power [Ice]

This set is a reincarnation of one of Infernape's signature, and most effective sets in DPP: Nasty Plot Infernape. Fire Blast is a staple on this set, as it grants Infernape a reliable STAB move to exploit after a boost from Nasty Plot, as after said boost, it will be able to dent even the bulkiest foes; Flamethrower can be used here if the shaky accuracy of Fire Blast is deemed unreliable for the user. Focus Blast serves as Infernape's secondary STAB attack, although Close Combat can be used in this moveslot to help Infernape bypass Pokemon that will often switch in after seeing Nasty Plot, such as Chansey and Blissey, while also being more accurate than Focus Blast. Lastly, Grass Knot can be used to help deal with bulky Water-types, common switch-ins to specially based Infernape, including Jellicent and Vaporeon; however, Vacuum Wave can be used to deal with faster foes attempting to revenge kill Infernape, as well as Pokemon such as Terrakion that Speed tie with maximum-Speed Infernape. Hidden power Ice is also a very viable option if you do not have any worries about the above-mention pokemon, as it nails the flying dragons that resist both of Infernape's STABs.
